Hello!

Postby Melanie » Tue Nov 20, 2012 3:40 pm

Hello everyone, my name is Melanie (not Mel  ) and I'm new here. I'm a huge lover of the fifties and sixties, live in the south of England and I've liked Billy Fury for a fair few years now but sadly never had the opportunity to see him live, more's the pity. I look forward to getting to know everyone here and if there's anything you would like to know (within reason), ask away!

Thank you for the welcome!

Well as I said I live in the south of England and I am married with one house rabbit.

I grew up with my grandparents so my musical tastes have always been a little dated compared to my contemporary's. I used to listen to almost exclusively sixties music and Billy was my first delve into the previous decade and now the majority of music I choose to listen to is rock and roll/rockabilly, r&b and doo wop. I do though like the odd thing that's more modern, usually if it has a nice retro feel to it.

I like to write fiction, sew my own clothes, make jewellery, bake cupcakes and take photographs.

I was known in the village I just moved away from as being the one who liked the 50's because of the way I dressed and would often get (somewhat older) men winding car windows down and blowing me kisses or honking me as they passed  People where we now live are quite fascinated by me and often chat to me about what I'm wearing and I often get remarks such as "Is that 40's or 50's?" but it's all positive reactions I get, which is nice.

Welcome Melanie :)

I think you will get along with all the other fiction authors that we have on our wonderful forum. :)

So far there are three of us and one budding author who would never admit to it - would you Kevin :?:  :D

I'm sure if you come along to one of our get togethers - then you would be able to wear your fifties clothes with style. :)

Some of the artists do shows in your neck of the woods but the meet ups are generally in Mill Hill - London, Blackpool, Northampton and Evesham in Worcester. :)

We don't have a car which leaves me dependent on public transport and that is so expensive, but I'll keep an eye out for local-ish things.

Welcome, you picked a great song for your signature, as soon as I read it I knew you were a real rock and roller. Which club do you go to Bournemouth, Fareham? You wont find too many rockabilly fans here but its a nice site to belong to, have a nice time, Bob/
